5-Minute Dance Party [Tu vuò fà l'americano]

Two things:

1) The name of this song is “Tu vuò fà l’americano.” It’s one of my favorites. For the history of this song/saying, check the deets at Wikipedia.

2) When I studied dance, we used to do this (hand dancing) to save energy while learning new choreography and to have fun. HOWEVER, we were never this cool or this coordinated about it. And I did get slapped in the face/slapped a person in the face a few times when we were goofing off and hand dancing. If you try this, wear a helmet or… something.

    Wow! I love this.

    Does Bluebird still dance?

    • Bluebird quit her 17 year Irish stepdance career just before turning 25— in order to go to graduate school in Los Angeles.

Then, she got lazy. Or something.

Two years ago, she returned to studying dance, specifically ballet, and worked her way up to taking four classes a week. It was a bit much. Her dance instructor was sidelined with a major performance-related injury for a year.

Bluebird got lazy again. Bluebird is preparing to study ballet starting in February with a new teacher.

Bluebird is very out-of-shape. She is also a teensy bit terrified at the moment at the prospect of getting into shape.

  2. Oh, and TOTAL CONFESSION. Even though I thought the “hand dancers” were reminiscent of Irish stepdancers, I never looked it up. Until you brought it up! So, thanks for that!

  3. Okay, this was awesome. Best video ever! I still bust out in hand dancing when a song comes on that I danced to. Muscle memory rocks. So fun! Love our chats, friend! Have a fab day!

    • The minute I saw this, it all came back. I still hand dance when I’m nervous or thinking really hard. Love our chats too! I hope your day was as lovely as your pretty blog name, and I hope today is even lovelier!

Hey there, cupcake! How are ya?
